Job Summary:

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our PreOp/PACU team at the University of New Mexico Hospitals. As a Registered Nurse, you will work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. This role requires clinical leadership, providing relief charge duties when designated, and serving as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care.



Responsibilities:

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients


Provide clinical leadership for other staff and assume relief charge duties when designated

Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care


Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures

Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups


  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by questioning current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies
  • Implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained
  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
  • Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner


Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred


No minimum experience required

CPR for Healthcare/BLS Pro or Prof Rescuers certification required within 30 days


RN license in NM or reciprocal agreement by NM required

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required within 6 months


Basic Arrhythmia Cert required within 1 year

PALS certification required within 6 months of position start date
