The Manager of Breast Imaging will help oversee 8 Breast Imaging Departments across the Greater Austin Region. Key responsibilities include collaboration with local, regional, and system leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, manage a quality assurance program, drive standardization efforts, oversee projects, and assist with strategic planning.

Candidates should have 5 years of experience in Breast Imaging and be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Mammography ARRT (M) and Radiography ARRT (R) and MRT License through the Texas Medical Board.

Job Summary

The Manager of Breast Imaging helps the Director manage, plan, organize, and improve Breast Imaging services. Performs department orientation, teaches, coaches, and supervises staff. Ensures knowledge of the organization’s vision, mission, values, and goals. Recommends and helps develop policies to comply with regulations and System philosophy. Acts as Director when needed.

Essential Functions of the Role


  • Plans, designs, implements, and maintains work processes for imaging services. Focuses on turnaround times, exam quality, and patient preparation. Ensures timely, accurate, and cost-efficient services. Complies with System and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures. Continuously revises processes for improvement and efficiency. Investigates, resolves, and documents patient complaints.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and modifies staffing patterns to ensure adequate levels. Prepares and modifies work schedules to ensure coverage of all shifts. Approves paid time off, sick time, and leave of absence for assigned staff.
  • Interviews, hires, counsels, and terminates personnel with Human Resources. Completes performance evaluations, rewards, and recognition. Trains new staff. Ensures all registrations and certifications are current and on file. Helps develop staff for career growth opportunities.
  • Partners with the management team and staff to hold multidisciplinary meetings. This ensures timely communication and adherence to the organization’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Goals.
  • Facilitates goal setting for staff in imaging sections. Monitors goals and achievements. Ensures goals are reflected in annual performance evaluations. Encourages participation in Employee Satisfaction Surveys, Patient Safety surveys, and other feedback activities. Initiates a plan of action for improvement areas.
  • Partners with Management to develop a department budget. Provides feedback on new and replacement equipment and services needed for growth. Monitors operational budgets and implements corrective action plans for negative productivity and expense variances.
  • Acts as a Breast Imaging liaison to other departments. Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with physicians and medical departments. Gathers and exchanges information, and develops solutions to problems. Assists in developing, reviewing, revising, submitting, and implementing policies, procedures, and priorities. Helps Department and System targets.
  • Ensures the department complies with JCAHO, TDH standards, and other accrediting bodies.
  • Identify patient service needs using AIDET when talking to patients. Ensure the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Establish personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others who know about the service requirements.
  • Coordinates and runs groups on patient safety, customer service, and performance improvement. Focuses on the environment of Care, Employee Engagement, and Physician Engagement. Also works on Quality Improvement and Inter-Departmental Relations. Participates in mutual governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees. This includes LEAN initiatives, 5S projects, and inter-departmental committees. Participates in any professional organization and QC assurance with radiologists.

Key Success Factors

  • Must stay updated on imaging trends, techniques, protocols, and procedures. Maintain skills on equipment for exams for newborns, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric care.
  • Able to perform high-quality advanced imaging procedures according to exam protocol. Comply with System and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures. Explain the procedure to put patients at ease.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service. Remain professional, review patient satisfaction scores, and develop action plans when needed.
  • Able to serve as preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • Able to create operational outcomes for work processes, quality, productivity standards, and measurable goals for employees and project teams.
  • Able to use broader priorities to resolve how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Able to make or approve effective hiring and termination outcomes.
  • Able to evaluate and recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect the managed organization.
  • Basic business knowledge includes annual planning, goal setting, budget adherence, employee compensation, compliance, and risk management.
  • General computer skills include Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Able to take call, if required.
  • Bachelor’s preferred

  • EDUCATION – Associate’s or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
  • EXPERIENCE – 5 Years of Experience

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION –

  • ARRT-M Mammography (ARRT-M), ARRT-R Radiography (ARRT-R), Registered Nurse (RN): Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Mammography ARRT(M) and Radiography ARRT(R)).
  • Must be Licensed by Texas Medical Board with your MRT to work in the state of Texas
