Physical Requirements
The physical requirements of this position include occasional standing or walking with objects up to 25 lbs. and sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); the conditions of work may involve occasional exposure to radiation, burns, and/or cuts/punctures.
Shift
Primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; some weekends and holidays may be required per departmental needs.
Job Summary
The Language Interpreter I will provide Spanish interpretation services for UK Healthcare (UKHC), primarily for the Polk Dalton Clinic. This position will accurately convey information between patient and provider; manage the flow of communication to maintain accuracy; facilitate rapport between the provider and patient; recognize and address instances that require intercultural inquiry to ensure accurate and complete understanding; and provide interpretation of policies, procedures, consents, directions, and instructions. These duties enable patients and families to effectively communicate in a language they understand which allows UKHC to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This position also helps UK Healthcare meet federal and Joint Commission requirements for language access. The position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and 40 hours of training in medical interpreting, such as Bridging the Gap, as well as documentation of language proficiency in English and Spanish.

Preferred Education/Experience
