Director of Professional Practice and Educational Services (INTERNAL ONLY)

Job Description

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional-level adult training and development, three (3) of which were in a management role.
 
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid License by the State of Nevada to Practice as a Registered Nurse.
Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements
PREFERENCES WILL BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WHO DOCUMENT THE FOLLOWING:   
  • UMC Employees only 
  • Current experience (within the last three (3) years) in the following (must meet all in order to qualify): 
    • Professional practice and clinical education development training. 
    • Student services and clinical rotations.
    • Magnet, pathway, PTAP, and shared Governance designation.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Principles, practices and techniques of adult learning, including traditional and experiential training in a work setting; principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations; principles and techniques of preparing effective written informational or educational materials; relevant Federal, state and county laws, codes and regulations; administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation, and the supervision of employees; principles and practices of development teams motivating employees and managing in a team environment; principles and practices of budget development and administration; computer applications and standard office equipment related to the work; record keeping principles and practices; correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
 
Skill in:
Planning, administering and overseeing a hospital-wide continuing education, organizational and leadership development program; assessing needs and developing internal resources or using external resources to meet these needs; planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing and evaluating the work of others; developing effective work teams and motivating individuals to meet goals and objectives and provide customer services in the most effective and efficient manner; assisting in developing goals, objectives, policies, procedures and regulations; using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines; preparing effective written informational and educational materials; using tact, discretion and prudence in dealing with those contacted in the course of work; making effective oral presentations to large and small groups; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
