With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena, Augustana Athletics is launched the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and is also the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016.  Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Directorâ™s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.Â



Athletics Event Manager


The Athletics Event Manager is a vital member of the athletic department responsible for the comprehensive planning, coordination, and execution of all home athletic contests and special events throughout the academic year. This includes regular-season competitions, postseason games, in-season tournaments, and NCAA-sanctioned events across fall, winter, and spring sports. The Athletics Event Manager ensures a high-quality experience for student-athletes, coaches, officials, visiting teams, and spectators while maintaining compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA policies. This is a full-time 12-month position. Â

Duties include but are not limited to:


  • Gameday operations manager for all 22 sport programs with over 150 home events hosted annually.
  • Hire, train, and schedule part time staff for scoreboard operation, ticket taking/selling, security, ushers, A-Club tailgate, webcast, set-up, clean-up.
  • Ensure that game officials are scheduled and confirmed for all events via Arbiter or RefQuest.
  • Organize interns, work-study students, graduate assistants, and volunteers for events.
  • Liaison for visiting team prior to an event.
  • Provide game day, visiting team guides for distribution to all visiting teams and game officials.
  • Secure hotel rooms and staffing for hosting NCAA Post-Season Championships.
  • Organize student-athletes that are working athletic events as a fundraiser for their team.
  • Ensure all items necessary for home game management are properly planned.
  • Assist with the sports management internship courses for intern credit purposes.
  • Coordinate with the university business office to order, manage, reconcile all cash needed for athletics events.Â
  • Coordinate team space with Rec Services to coincide with Elmen Center and Midco Arena schedules.
  • Place work orders and work with university facilities staff to ensure facilities are operated as intended.
  • Manage the department courtesy car program and corporate sponsor trade.Â
  • Adhere to NSIC, CCHA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Duties as assigned by Senior Associate AD and VP for Athletics.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in athletics event management.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with administrative, coaching and athletic administrative staff. Â
  • Be able to work alone, one-on-one, or as part of a larger team.
  • Experience in management and promotion of regional and national tournaments preferred.
  • Proven experience and expertise in developing and maintaining positive relationships third-party management groups.
  • Must demonstrate high energy, flexibility with schedule, and demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Valid drivers’ license.

Preferred Qualification:Â


  • Bachelorâ™s degree
  • One (1) years of experience in athletics, administration and/or coaching.
  • Multi-tasker, self-starter, independent worker and thinker, and must serve as an outstanding representative of the University in contact with the general public and other education-based groups.
  • A high degree of proficiency for writing and communication skills is essential to the success of the job.
  • Must have strong work ethic including organizational skills and have the ability to perform functions with accuracy and attention to detail.
