Job Summary
The Department of Romance Languages and Literature (RLL) invites applications for a Lecturer I position in the Italian section beginning on August 25, 2025, and running through April 30, 2026. The expected teaching load is three courses in Fall and three in Winter semester. In each semester, the Lecturer I will teach two upper-level courses in Italian literature and culture, as well as one Italian language course within the department’s coordinated Elementary Language Program. The anticipated effort for this position is 100%.
With a history dating back to 1846, RLL is one of the longest-running departments in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). We offer four undergraduate majors, four undergraduate minors, and three doctoral degrees. In addition to these degree programs, the Elementary Language Program teaches the majority of UM-Ann Arbor’s undergraduate students whose school or college has a language requirement.
The department has a strong commitment to supporting and inclusive community and actively seeks to teach not only the languages and cultures of France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain but also the legacy of their colonial activities across the globe. The Italian section seeks to teach Italian as a global language in a way that decenters Italy and offers a more expansive perspective of the Italian world.
